Martial Arts and Self Defence Classes in Langley
Langley Martial Arts Classes
Shuhari also runs dedicated female self-defence classes led by Sensei Vee. But at Langley, the female instructor presence is part of the regular mixed classes too, which benefits everyone: adults, children, and teens.
Classes run on Mondays and Fridays at Langley Free Church on Trelawney Avenue. On Mondays there are two sessions: a children and adults class from 18:00 to 19:00, followed by a teenagers and adults session from 19:15 to 20:15.
On Fridays, the 18:00 class is open to children and adults. This schedule lets you open and close your working week with training, leaving weekends free for other commitments.
Every session at Langley follows Shuhari's integrated approach. Our instructors draw from multiple martial arts disciplines: karate, boxing, wrestling, Krav Maga, kung fu, judo, BJJ, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. You develop striking, grappling, and real-world self-defence skills within the one-hour session.
Sensei Vee is friendly, patient, caring and truly interested in the journey of each student. She is a strong role model to follow.
Sensei Nadine has been training in martial arts since 2007. Her teaching style is detailed and disciplined.
Senpai Naseem's approach is calm, welcoming, and particularly good at putting nervous beginners at ease. Between the three instructors, the team covers everything from high-intensity sparring to slow, step-by-step guidance for first-timers.
All instructors are DBS checked and first-aid trained.
Langley Free Church is within easy reach of Iver, Richings Park, Colnbrook, George Green, Brands Hill, and Datchet. On-site parking is available.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do Langley classes run?
We train at Langley Free Church on Mondays and Fridays. Monday has two sessions: children and adults from 18:00 to 19:00, then teenagers and adults from 19:15 to 20:15. Friday has a children and adults class from 18:00 to 19:00. All sessions are one hour long.
What is the difference between the Monday 18:00 and 19:15 classes?
The 18:00 session is for children (aged 7+) and adults together, making it well suited for families. The 19:15 session is for teenagers and adults only, and the pace is slightly higher. Some teenager and adult students attend both back-to-back for a full two hours of training.
I am a woman and I have never tried martial arts. Will I feel welcome?
You will. Langley is led by two female Black Belt instructors, which creates a training environment where women feel comfortable from day one. You do not need any experience or a particular level of fitness to start. Many of our female students began as complete adults with no background in sport. Read our adult beginners' guide for real stories from students who started later in life.
What martial arts do you teach?
Classes integrate techniques from multiple disciplines: karate, boxing, wrestling, Krav Maga, kung fu, judo, BJJ, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. This blended approach gives you a well-rounded skill set for practical self defence. Our martial arts guide explains each style in more detail.
What age can children start?
From age 7. At this age, children's cognitive development is mature enough to engage safely and meaningfully with structured martial arts training that involves partner work and contact. There is no upper age limit for adults.
I am nervous about trying my first class. What should I expect?
That feeling is completely normal and very common. Our instructors, particularly Senpai Naseem, are known for putting first-time students at ease. You will be paired with an appropriate training partner, and the instructors will guide you through everything step by step. Nobody expects you to know what you are doing on day one. Our first class guide walks through the full session so there are no surprises.
What should I wear?
Any comfortable gym clothes will do for your first few sessions. There is no need to buy equipment before you start. Once you decide to continue, a Shuhari gi is available at the dojo.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. You can try a session before committing. Contact us to arrange a trial on Monday or Friday evening, or call 07739 464 005.
Is there parking at Langley Free Church?
Yes. The church has on-site parking. The venue is on Trelawney Avenue, a residential street that is also straightforward to reach from the A4.
Is this effective for real-world self defence?
Yes. Every session includes partner drills and pressure-tested techniques designed for realistic situations. Because you learn techniques from many disciplines, you learn to handle confrontations at every range. For a detailed comparison of which martial arts work best for self defence, read our self-defence guide.
